Reach for the Sky
Everyone has a wish list and you shouldn’t let age get in your way. Now is your chance to go places
you have never been and do things you have never done before. Or perhaps revisit somewhere special
where you haven’t been for years.
Ability Adventures has a wealth of holiday ideas for people in their senior years. It may be a relaxed holiday or a full-on physical adventure – Ability Adventures can take you there in style. As a senior traveller we understand you may have a range of considerations, e.g. pace of holiday, accessibility, mobility equipment and personal care support. Let us know and we will cater for your particular needs.
New Zealand is a country for all senses and Ability Adventures can design a spectacular multi-sensory
accessible holiday adventure, guiding you all the way. Our emphasis on small group travel also helps
ensure your holiday is a totally enjoyable and inclusive experience.
We can introduce you to the unique and exciting sights, tastes, textures, fragrances and sounds of New Zealand – from the distinctive tuneful calls of the native tui bird, through to a mouthwatering kiwi pavlova dessert. Ability Adventures is experienced at tandem cycling giving people with blindness or visual impairment the opportunity to take advantage of the new network of New Zealand Cycle Trails.
We can help you experience it all, delivered at your pace and catered to your particular needs, including sighted guiding and a sign language interpreter.
Ability Adventures can design a New Zealand holiday adventure to suit your level of mobility, whether
you are a slow walker, or use a walking aid or wheelchair. Let us help you ‘reach for the sky’.
Improved access infrastructure throughout New Zealand makes a myriad of activities and adventures possible – kayaking, rafting, flying and boating. What about being driven on a race track at over 200kph?
Accommodation, transport and activities are carefully chosen according to your accessibility requirements. We can organise mobility and personal care support, and equipment, if required.
Ability Adventures designs supported holidays for individuals or small groups of adults who have a
mild to moderate learning disability.
The emphasis is on a fun and relaxed holiday in safe and comfortable settings.
Ability Adventures can provide a range of support services, facilities and equipment. Please let us know what you require when we begin planning your holiday adventure.
Personal care support: we can provide assistance with your daily health and wellbeing needs. Support people are agency-trained.
Equipment hire: a selection of mobility and personal care equipment can be hired. This can alleviate the need to bring your own and the possibility of any damage to your personal property en route.
Personal mobility support: for wheelchair assistance, sighted guiding or other specific support that may be required. This can provide that extra peace of mind and convenience, maximising your holiday enjoyment.
Specialised vehicles: including hand-control vehicles, those with swing-out seats and vans with wheelchair hoists, tracks and tie-downs.
Accommodation: let us know your accessibility requirements and we will ensure each facility used meets your needs.
Plus any additional services you require, e.g. sign language interpreters and special dietary requirements.

Making the impossible possible!
"Thank you to Marina for making the impossible possible! We had a great few days travelling around Rotorua with you!"
Starr Family, USA, April 2017 (guided multi-day tour)
Choosing Ability Adventures was the right move
"Marina gave my aunt and I a lovely day in Dunedin, despite the awful weather on Tuesday 7 March. We got to see and enjoy Dunedin through the eyes of a local. The only downside was the cold. Marina was very informative and got us in and out of places easily. Choosing Ability Adventures was the right move for my 85 year old legally blind and mobility challenged aunt and myself. We both enjoyed our time in Dunedin thoroughly. Thanks Marina"
Louise and Una, Australia, March 2017
"Good choice of venues visited, great access and very interesting. Tour manager, Marina, was excellent as was tour guide Gary. Very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful day."

Exceeded all expectations
"Thank you Marina! You have truly exceeded all expectations. After scouring the internet looking for a suitable tour for a disability, I found Marina. She tailor-made the tour, included special interests, was flexible, and preempted needs whilst on tour. This was all delivered with warmth and great hospitality, humor, nothing was too much trouble. This is the feedback from my client, as I am a Travel Agent from Australia. Perfect work Marina, very well deserved!"

A ten out of 10 Gold Star Experience
"Overall Marina's Ability Adventures in New Zealand was a 100%, 10 out of 10, Gold Star experience. She is very experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Marina is a licensed Occupational Therapist who has knowledge and expertise in working with disabled clients. This increases trust and safety. We covered vast distances and experiences in both the north and south islands - kayaking, boating, flying, learning about the uniqueness of the environment and the culture. The highlight was the backwoods - away from the tourist-traps - and the intimacy of the adventure. Anne and I so enjoyed our New Zealand adventure. Thanks so much for making it a 10 out of 10 experience."
Jody and Ann - USA, Jan 2010 (guided multi-day tour)
